From the Ottoman Empire to today's Turkey, Istanbul's historic Galata and Balat districts have been home to Jewish communities for centuries. Throughout history, Jews who have been in search of a homeland have faced difficult situations such as exile and immigration, and as a result, they have experienced negative events. Along with this search, they found safe harbors where they could continue their culture in settlements such as Galata and Balat. The Turks living in the districts were also influenced by their cultures in these commercial and social interactions with the Jews. This research paper primarily aims to provide a historical perspective on Jewish culture and heritage in this region by examining the settlements and social lives of Jewish communities in Galata and Balat.25 pages.
