It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (page 16).Ayten Gökakın, 1900ler Türkiye’sinde doğmuş bir cumhuriyet kadınıdır. Dönemin kadınlarayüklediği toplumsal rolleri aşarak eğitimini tamamlamış ve sayılı üniversite mezunu kız arasına girerek, kendini önce bir avukat, ardından ise Ankara’nın ilk kadın noteri olarak şereflendirmiştir. Dönemin kadın figürünün, aile kurmayla sınırlandırılmış toplumsal konumundan sıyrılmasına katkıda bulunarak, kadınların da iş hayatında erkekler kadar etkin rol alabileceğini ve ülke ekonomisine katkıda bulunabileceğini herkese göstermiştir. Ayrıca, tüm bunları başarırken bir yandan da aile kurması, cumhuriyet kadınlarına örnek olacak niteliktedir.Ayten Gökakın was born in the 20th century republican period in Turkey. She was among limited number of women who graduated from university at that time. Afterwards, she honoured herself by being an advocate and lately the first woman notary of Ankara. She broke the public norms where women is only supposed to take care of her family and do not contribute to the country’s economy as an active member of the work-life. And while exceeding the limits imposed by the social roles, she also looked after her family and showed people that having a family cannot be an excuse when the issue is to develop oneself.
