It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Doğduğu ve hayatının çoğunu geçirdiği Adana kentinin sosyal ve kültürel açıdan kalkındırılmasında aktif rol oynamak isteyen, bir eğitim gönüllüsü, Cevdet Naci Gülalp, bu sebeple Adana Türk-Amerikan Derneği’nin kuruluş sürecinde aktif rol almıştır. Bu araştırmada Adana Türk-Amerikan Derneği’nin kuruluş sürecine dair fikir edinmek; kuruluş misyonunu gerçekleştirme derecesini ve Cevdet Naci Gülalp’in bu süreçteki rolünü saptamak amacıyla Cevdet Naci Gülalp’in bizatihi yazdığı döneme dair eserleri incelenmiş, Cevdet Naci Gülalp’in birinci derece yakınlarıyla röportajlar düzenlenmiş ve Türk-Amerikan Dernekleri’ne dair akademik araştırmalar incelenmiştir. Yürütülen araştırmalar ve derlenen bilgilerle Türk-Amerikan Dernekleri’nin kuruluş süreci aracılığıyla 1950-1960’lı yıllarda Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerinin diplomatik temellerine ve Adana kentinden özelle dönemin Türkiye’sinde dil eğitimi sektöründe hizmet veren sivil toplum kuruluşlarının faaliyetlerine dair izlenim elde edilmiştir. Adana Türk-Amerikan Derneği’ne dair yürütülen bu çalışma, Soğuk Savaş döneminden itibaren Türkiye ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri arasındaki diplomatik müttefikliğin Türkiye’de yaşayan kent insanının kültürel faaliyetlerine etkilerine ve Cevdet Naci Gülalp gibi gönüllülerin yürüttükleri sivil toplum kuruluşlarının yerel etkilerine ışık tutmayı hedeflemektedir.The Adana Turkish-American Association has been operating as a community organization centered on language education since 1954, when it was founded as a branch of the Turkish-American Association, the first of which was established in Ankara as a result of a bilateral treaty between Turkey and the United States. Cevdet Naci Gülalp, an education volunteer who wanted to play an active role in the social and cultural development of Adana, where he was born and spent most of his life, took an active role in the establishment process of Adana Turkish-American Association. In this study, in order to gain insight into the establishment process of the Adana Turkish-American Association, to determine the degree to which it realized its founding mission and the role of Cevdet Naci Gülalp in this process, Cevdet Naci Gülalp's own works on the period, interviews with Cevdet Naci Gülalp's first- degree relatives, and academic research on Turkish-American Associations were examined. As a result of the research conducted and the information gathered, an impression has been obtained on the diplomatic foundations of Turkish-American relations in the 1950s-1960s through the establishment process of Turkish-American Associations and the activities of non-governmental organizations serving in the language education sector in the city of Adana and in Turkey of the period.
