It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Bu makale, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi'nin (İTÜ) bu süreçte geçirdiği dönüşümü incelemektedir. Darbe öncesinde İTÜ'de yoğunlaşan öğrenci olayları, siyasal kutuplaşma ve güvenlik sorunları üniversitenin sosyal ve akademik iklimini şekillendirmiştir. Darbenin ardından üniversite özerkliğinin kaldırılması, öğrenci temsilciliği ve kulüplerinin kapatılması, disiplin uygulamalarının sertleşmesi gibi gelişmeler İTÜ'deki yaşamı derinden etkilemiştir. Bu çalışma, 1980 öncesi ve sonrasında İTÜ'nün akademik yapısını, öğrenci hareketlerini ve alınan güvenlik önlemlerini hem iç dinamikler hem de ulusal yükseköğretim politikaları bağlamında ele almaktadır.The September 12, 1980 military coup transformed Turkey's higher education system, reshaping the structure and governance of universities. This article examines how Istanbul Technical University (ITU) changed during this period. Before the coup, growing student unrest, political polarization, and campus security issues shaped ITU’s climate. In its aftermath, the loss of university autonomy, closure of student clubs and representative bodies, and stricter disciplinary policies profoundly affected university life.
