It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Bu dönemde Osmanlı Devleti’nin balkanlardaki toprakları, Hristiyan devletlerin işgalleri uğradı ve bu topraklarda yaşan Müslümanlar baskı altında bırakıldı. Kurtuluş Savaşı sonrasında imzalanan Lozan Antlaşması’nda Yunanistan’daki Müslümanlar ile Türkiye’deki Rumların yerlerinin değiştirilmesi kararlaştırıldı. Böylece birçok Müslüman, işgal altında olan evlerinden zorunlu olarak Türkiye’ye göç etmek zorunda kaldı. Bu çalışmada Midilli Adası’ndan İzmir’e göç eden Önal Ailesinin Midilli’deki eski yaşamlarından Türkiye’deki yeni hayatlarına başlayışlarına kadar olan dönem mübadele kapsamında incelemiştir.Towards the end of the 19th century, the territorial integrity of the Ottoman Empire began to deteriorate. During this period, the lands of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans were occupied by Christian states. Moreover, the Muslims living in these lands were oppressed. In the Treaty of Lausanne, signed after the War of Independence, it was decided to exchange the Muslims in Greece and the Greeks in Turkey. Thus, many Muslims were forced to migrate to Turkey from their occupied homes. The Önal Family immigrated to İzmir from Lesvos Island.
