It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Bu araştırmada Yaşar Yakış’ın çocukluk yılları, eğitim hayatı ve Türkiye’nin önemli diplomatlarından biri haline gelebilmek için üstesinden geldiği zorluklar ile birlikte yaşadığı ilginç olaylar ele alınmıştır. 1962 yılında Ankara Üniversitesi Siyasal Bilgiler Fakültesi'nden mezun olmasıyla diplomatik kariyeri başlamıştır. Kariyeri boyunca Belçika, Nijerya, Suriye ve Suudi Arabistan gibi çeşitli ülkelerde diplomatik görevlerini yerine getirmiştir. Araştırmada Yakış’ın diplomatik kariyerinin yanı sıra akademiye katkısı da incelenmiş olup verdiği dersler ve yazdığı makaleler de belirtilmiştir. Yaşar Yakış kariyeri boyunca Türkiye’nin diplomatik ilişkilerine ve Türk siyasetine yön vermiştir. Bu başarılı kariyerin özel hayatını nasıl etkilediği ve ilgi alanları da araştırmada ele alınmıştır. Bu araştırmada elde edilen bilgiler Yakış ile yapılan röportaj, kendisinin yıllarca özenle tuttuğu kişisel hatıra defterleri ve devlet arşivinden elde edilen resmî belgeler sayesinde toplanmıştır.Yaşar Yakış is one of the reputable diplomats and politicians of the Republic of Turkiye. In this research paper; Yaşar Yakış's childhood, his educational background, the interesting occasions of his life and the hardships he had to overcome to become a noteworthy diplomat of Turkiye, are addressed. His diplomatic career had begun upon his graduation from University of Ankara, Faculty of Political Sciences in 1962. Then, he fulfilled his diplomatic duties in various countries such as Belgium, Nigeria, Syria and Saudi Arabia. In this paper, in addition to Yakış's diplomatic career, his contribution to the academy, the lectures he gave and the articles he wrote are also featured. Yaşar Yakış has knowingly shaped Turkiye's diplomatic relations and Turkish politics throughout his career. It is also discussed in this paper that from what aspects his successful career affected his private life while his personal interests are addressed.
