Maryam was one of the daughters of the şahinyan family which was a rooted Armenian family living in Sivas. After 1915, the family had to immigrate to İstanbul. Maryam had to leave school and work with his father at his photography studio, due to the economic problems that the family was facing and due to the sudden death of her mother. Between the years 1935-1980, despite many changes that the Turkish society was going through, Maryam şahinyan kept the decoration of the studio exactly the same as the first day. She ensured chance for everyone to have a photograph, regardless of their religion, social background or sex. Maryam şahinyan was a collection of woman, Armenian and non-Muslim identities and this fact did not retain her to perform her passion. When in 2009 a photographer named Tayfun Serttaş found the archives and bring them to light, the daily displays during Maryam’s life was discovered. The fact that Maryam was not worried about making art and that she rather had a didactical attitude ensures that the displays are as close as it can be to the reality of her days. This study will examine and explain some features of Turkey that is reflected by şahinyan’s photographs, such as the immigration phenomena, the socio-economic change leading the change in the understanding of fashion, the relationships between men and women along with the representation of different cultures.23 pages.TurkishCreative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlikeTürkiye’de fotoğrafçılıkMaryam şahinyanFoto-GalatasaraySosyoekonomik değişimlerGöç olgusuModa anlayışıKültürelPhotography in TurkeySocio-economic changesİmmigration phenomenaFashionCultural representativenessÖZTÜRK HIST 200-19/2 2017-18Körüklü makineye sıkışan bir tarih ve ardındaki kadın: Maryam şahinyanStudent ProjectSPB2781
