It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Güreşe dedesi Arif Çavuş’un teşvikiyle başlamış, ardından çoğunu tuş ile kazandığı müsabakalar ile gerek Türkiye’de gerekse uluslararası arenada ses getiren bir sporcu hâline gelmiştir. Türk güreşine sporcu olarak birçok olimpiyat ve dünya şampiyonluğu kazandırmasının yanı sıra bir antrenör olarak onlarca şampiyon güreşçi de kazandıran Doğu, ölümüne kadar geçen süreçte Türk güreşine ve sporuna sayısız hizmette bulunmuştur. Ahlakı, ilkeleri ve milliyetçiliği ile öne çıkan Doğu, çevresindeki genç sporculara örnek olmuş, yaptığı yardımlar ve fedakarlıklar sayesinde Anadolu halkı tarafından sevilmiş ve sayılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Yaşar Doğu’nun kişisel hayatı ve ilkeleri incelenerek başarıya ulaşmasındaki önemli etkenler açığa çıkarılmış, sporculuk yıllarında yaşadıkları özetlenerek Türk güreşinin altın yıllarına ışık tutulmuş ve antrenörlük yılları izlenerek onun fedakarlıkları, yardımseverliği, milliyetçiliği ve Türk güreşine sunduğu katkılar gözler önüne serilmiştir.Yaşar Doğu is a Turkish wrestler of Circassian descent who started his wrestling career in Samsun, Kavak where he was born. He started his wrestling career with his grandfather Arif Çavuş’s support and he became a world-renowned athlete later in his career thanks to the matches he mostly won with pin-downs. Doğu, in addition to the many olympiad and world championship titles he won for the Turkish federation, also discovered and trained countless champion wrestlers as a coach, and he continued to contribute to Turkish wrestling until his death. Known for his morality, principles and nationalism; Doğu served as a model for young athletes, and thanks to his self devotion and helpfulness, he was loved and embraced by Anatolian people.
