It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Kayak sporunun Türkiye’de yaygınlaşmasıyla bu süreçte kış sporları adı altında toplanan farklı spor faaliyetlerinin ortaya çıkardığı ticari potansiyel araştırılarak İlhami Alaftargil’in kurduğu Karspor ile sentezlenmiştir. Buna ilaveten 1980’li yıllardaki sporcuların yaşadığı zorlu sürece değinilmiştir. Tüm bu faktörler ışığında İlhami Alaftargil’in kayak sporuna katkısı üzerinde durulmuştur. Alaftargil ailesinin kayak sporunun gelişimdeki katkısı, İlhami Alaftargil’in çocukları Arif ve Atakan Alaftargil ile İlhami Alaftargil’e yakın bulunan kayakçılardan İhsan Özgöral ve Erdinç Taştan’la yapılan röportajların desteğiyle somutlaştırılmıştır.In this study, the importance of skiing in Erzurum is focused through emphasizing the development of skiing in Turkey before and after 1980 with the dependence on the historical development of skiing. As skiing became widespread in Turkey, the commercial potential created by different sports activities gathered under the name of winter sports was researched and synthesized with Karspor that was founded by İlhami Alaftargil. In addition, the difficult process experienced by skiers in the 1980s was mentioned. Through the perspectives of all these factors, the contribution of İlhami Alaftargil to skiing was emphasized.
