Halman, Talât Sait2020-11-232020-11-2320081016-4537http://hdl.handle.net/11693/54592Talat Sait Halman's article, based on the keynote speech he gave on the occasion of the Turkish Language Day, deals with present-day Turkish and negative factors affecting its future.It concentrates on grammatical problems in publications as well as pronunciation errors in spoken usage, general problems, difficulties relating to coinage of new scientific and cultural terms, hegemony of western languages that cause problems for Turkish culture, the deletorious effects of debates resulting from disparate views of traditionalist and reformist linguistic specialists, and it puts forward a variety of solutions. Halman makes a call for the establishment of "Correct Usage Advisors" and of "Language Inspectors" at broadcasting and publishing institutions, for public support for the control and rectification of linguistic errors, public support, for language societies to disseminate publications relating to correct usage and for language experts to find ways of withstanding against western languages that pose problems for Turkish , and brings clarity ,to such topics as the creation of an "amalgamated language" necessary for the enrichment of Turkish.
