It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 19-21).Bu araştırmanın konusu metalurji eğitiminin Türkiye‟deki öncüsü Prof. Dr. Recep Ali Safoğlu‟nun hayatı olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada ilk olarak ailesi, ardından ilkokul, ortaokul ve lise yılları ele alınacaktır. Sonrasında devlet desteği ile metalurji alanında üniversite eğitimi almak için Belçika‟ya gidişi ancak ikinci Dünya Savaşı sebebiyle eğitimine Amerika‟da devam edişi anlatılacaktır. Devamında, yurtdışı eğitimi bitince Etibank ve Murgul Bakır Madeninde yaptığı çalışmalar incelenecektir. Son olarak ise akademik hayata girişi ve Türkiye‟deki metalurji eğitiminin ilk defa İTÜ‟de başlamasına olan katkıları değerlendirilecektir.The subject of this research is chosen to be Prof. Dr. Recep Ali Safoğlu, who is the pioneer of metallurgy education in Turkey. In this research paper, first his family and then his primarysecondary school and high school education will be presented. Subsequent to this, his metallurgy education in Belgium which was not complete due to World War II and continued in the United States will be explained. Following this, his works in Etibank and Murgul will be analyzed.
