It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 21-22).Hasan Uğurlu Barajı ve Hidroelektrik Santrali 1971-1981 yılları arasında Samsun’un Ayvacık ilçesinde Japon hükümetinin verdiği krediler ve Japon firmaları işbirliğiyle Yeşilırmak üzerinde kurulmuştur. Hasan Uğurlu, Japonlar’dan kredi alınarak yapılan ilk baraj olmasının yanı sıra Türkiye’nin ilk yeraltı hidroelektrik santralidir. Araştırma sınırları dahilinde baraj yapım kararına ve sürecine dayanan Türk-Japon ilişkileri, barajın yapım aşaması, barajın yapım sürecinde karşılaşılan problemler, barajın Türk-Japon ilişkilerine katkıları ve Ayvacık ilçesi ile Türkiye’ye etkileri incelenecektir. Hasan Uğurlu Barajı ve Hidroelektrik Santrali hem Japon hükûmetinin kredisiyle desteklenip ilk kez bir Türk özel şirketinin inşaata öncü olması hem de o dönemde Türkiye’nin enerji ihtiyacını karşılamaya yönelik yapılan büyük bir proje olması sebebiyle araştırılmaya değer görülmüştür.Hasan Uğurlu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant was established in Ayvacık, Samsun between 1971-1981 on Yeşilırmak river through the funds which are given by the Japanese government. It is not only the first dam built by taking funds from the Japanese but also it is the first underground hydroelectric power plant of Turkey. Within the boundaries of the research, dam construction decision and process that are based on Turkish-Japanese relations, the construction steps of the dam, the problems encountered in the process of constructing the dam, the contributions of the dam to Turkish-Japanese relations and the effects on Ayvacık and Turkey will be examined. Hasan Uğurlu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant is both the first project that Turkish private company pioneered for it's construction, and also it is first in terms of being supported with the fund from the Japanese government.
