It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 18-19)Nevzat Özbay, Ankara Ulucanlar Cezaevi Müzesi Sanat Sokağı’ndaki atölyesinde sanat eserleri üreten bir ahşap oyma ustasıdır. Nevzat Özbay, Çerkes kökenlidir ve 1946 yılında Uzunyayla’da doğmuştur. Ailesinin etkisiyle eğitimine önem vermiş ve küçük yaşta okuma yazma öğrenmiştir. Özbay, lise ve üniversite eğitimini bir yandan çalışarak tamamlamıştır. Bu dönemde gördüğü haksızlıklarla mücadele etmiş ve deneyimledikleriyle hayata bakış açısı şekillenmiştir. Nevzat Özbay, üniversitede tarih ve inşaat mühendisliği bölümlerini bitirmiş fakat çeşitli sebeplerle diplomasını alamamıştır. Özbay, muhalif kişiliği nedeniyle siyasi faaliyetlere yönelmiş ve çeşitli dergiler çıkarmıştır. 1980 Darbesi döneminde bir süre kaçak yaşamıştır. 1984 yılında tutuklanan Nevzat Özbay, hapishanedeyken işkencelere maruz kalmıştır. Çocukluğunda itibaren el sanatlarına ilgi duyan Özbay, bu dönem sonrasında geçirdiği felç nedeniyle oymacılığa yönelmiş ve bu sayede ellerini geri kazanmıştır. Nevzat Özbay, “sanat toplum içindir” düşüncesiyle eserler ortaya koymakta ve eserlerinde toplumsal konuları işlemektedirNevzat Özbay is a wood carving master and has an atelier at Ulucanlar Prison Museum Art Street. He produces art to present sociological issues. He was born in Uzunyayla in 1946 and he is of Circassian origin. Thanks to his family, education was a priority in his life. So, he became literate when he was a child. While he was in high school and university, he was working part-time. Also, he struggled with injustice. All of these improved his perspective. Özbay had a history and civil engineering license. However, he couldn’t get his degrees due to political reasons. In addition to these, he printed magazines. He lived as an outlaw for a while. However, in 1984 he was arrested. He had been tortured when he was a prisoner. After this period he had a stroke and turned to wood carving which Özbay has been interested in since his childhood.
