It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (page 23).“Türk-Yunan Nüfus Mübadelesi’ne İlişkin Sözleşme ve Protokol” 30 Ocak 1923 tarihinde imzalanmış ve böylece mübadiller için göç süreci başlamıştır. Aka ailesi de Yunanistan’ın Kulalı Köyü’nde yaşayan ve mübadele ile birlikte İzmir’e yerleştirilen ailelerden biridir. Aka ailesi hem göç esnasında hem de İzmir’e yerleştirildikten sonra çeşitli zorluklarla karşılaşmışlardır. Zamanla bu zorlukların üstesinden gelip İzmir’de de kendilerine güzel bir yaşam kurmalarına rağmen memleket özlemleri hiçbir zaman dinmemiştir. Prof. Dr. Afşar İsmail Aka, aile büyüklerinden bu göç hikayelerini ve çekilen zorlukları dinleyerek büyümüştür. Kariyerini şekillendirmesinde dinlediği bu hikayelerin etkisi çok büyük olmuştur. Bu çalışmada Türkiye-Yunanistan arasındaki mübadele süreci, bu süreçte ve Türkiye’ye yerleştirildikten sonra Aka ailesinin yaşadıkları zorluklar, bu sürecin İsmail Aka üzerindeki etkileri ve İsmail Aka’nın kişisel ve çalışma hayatı anlatılmıştır.“The Protocol and Contract Regarding the Population Exchange Between Turkish and Greece Populus” was signed on January 30th, 1923, thus starting the mass migration and exchange period between the Populus. Aka family who resided in Kulalı, located in the Peloponnese region of Greece, was relocated to Izmir, Turkey. The Aka family faced various challenges both during their migration journey and after they had settled in Izmir. Even though they have managed to form a fulfilling life for themselves, their longing for their hometown was always present. Prof. Dr. Afşar İsmail Aka, during his time of childhood, grew up listening to the hardships and the stories of migration. These stories played a significant role in shaping his career and interests towards history.
