It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 21-22).Bu çalışma, Alpheus Newell Andrus'un yaşamına ve Mardin Bölgesinde 19. yüzyılın sonlarında Mardin Bölgesi'ndeki ABCFM'nin baş misyonerliği görevine kabul ettiği profesyonel notlarına bir içgörü kazandırmaya çalışmaktadır. çalışma, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu toplumunun toplumdaki farklı sosyal grupların neden olduğu etnik ve dini çatışmalar yaşadığını göstermektedir. çalışma, bölgedeki Hristiyan misyonerlik faaliyetlerine etnik ve dini politikalara dolaylı bir müdahale olarak yaklaşmakta ve A. N. Andrus’un notlarını ve misyoner faaliyetleri bu müdahaleci politikaların bir örneği olarak değerlendirmektedir.This study attempts to provide an insight to the life of Alpheus Newell Andrus and his professional notes throughout his admission as the head missionary of the ABCFM in the Mardin Region around the late 19th century. The study illustrates that the Ottoman Empire society had experienced ethnic and religious conflict, which had been caused by different social groups in the society. The study approaches Christian missionary activities in the region as an indirect intervention to ethnic and religious politics and evaluate A. N. Andrus’ notes and his activities as an illustration of these intervening policies.
