It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 15-16).Tütün, 20. yüzyılda Türkiye’nin önemli ihraç ürünlerinden biridir. Bu zaman diliminde tütüncülüğün merkezi olarak varsayılan Akhisar’da tütün tarımının hikâyesi Türkiye Yunanistan nüfus mübadelesi ile başlamakta ve 20. yüzyılın sonlarında gelen tekel yasaları ile sona ermektedir. Bu araştırmada tütüncülüğün Akhisar ve çevresinde yaygınlaşması, daha sonra da azalarak yerini zeytinciliğe bırakması işlenmiştir. Tütüncülüğün Akhisar’da izlediği eğilim araştırılırken Selanik’ten Akhisar’a göç etmiş ve ailesiyle burada tütüncülükle uğraşmış Mustafa Gülümser ile röportaj yapılmıştır. Bu röportaj ve yardımcı kaynaklar sayesinde Akhisar’da tütüncülüğün öyküsü bu araştırmada ortaya konulmuştur.Tobacco was a major export in Turkey during the 20th century. The city of Akhisar played a central role in tobacco agriculture in this time interval. Tobacco agriculture in Akhisar first began with the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, and ended with the Tekel regulations implemented in the late 20th century. In this research, the spread of tobacco agriculture as a means of living in Akhisar and its gradual shift to olive cultivation is analyzed. While examining the trend of tobacco production in Akhisar, an interview was conducted with Mustafa Gülümser, an immigrant from Selanik to Akhisar who farmed tobacco with his family.
