It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Ankara : İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Üniversitesi İktisadi, İdari ve Sosyal Bilimler Fakültesi, Tarih Bölümü, 2025.Includes bibliographical references (pages 16-17).Bu çalışma, 1989 yılında İskenderun Demir-Çelik Fabrikası’nda gerçekleşen ve Türkiye işçi hareketleri tarihinde dönüm noktası olan grevi tarihsel ve toplumsal boyutlarıyla ele aldı. Grev, yalnızca ücret artışı talebiyle sınırlı kalmadı; aynı zamanda işçi sınıfının görünürlüğünü artırdı ve toplumda dayanışma bilincini pekiştirdi. Araştırmada, grev öncesi dönemde işçilerin karşılaştığı düşük ücret, ağır çalışma koşulları ve sendikal baskılar detaylı biçimde incelendi. Grev sürecinde işçiler ve aileleri ciddi ekonomik zorluklar yaşadı; ancak yerel halkın desteğiyle güçlü bir toplumsal dayanışma örneği sergilendi. Grev sonucunda işçiler önemli kazanımlar elde etti; fakat memurların bu sürece yeterince dahil olamaması fabrikada yeni huzursuzluklara neden oldu. Sonuç olarak, İSDEMİR grevi, yalnızca bir hak arayışı değil; kolektif mücadelenin toplumu dönüştürme gücünü gösteren tarihsel bir örnek oldu.This study examines the 1989 strike at İskenderun Iron and Steel Factory (İSDEMİR) within its historical and social context. The strike addressed economic issues, increased the visibility of the working class, and strengthened solidarity. The research highlights the poor working conditions, low wages, and union struggles workers face. During the strike, workers and their families experienced hardships, yet a strong community support network emerged. The strike led to improvements in wages and social rights, though civil servants did not benefit equally, causing internal tensions.
