Item Open Access An analysis of the relationships between international diversification, product diversification, firm resources and performance(2009) Capar, NejatThere have been numerous studies that have examined the relationships between international diversification, product diversification, firm resources, and performance. However, these studies have largely ignored the interrelationships and the causal linkages among the variables in consideration It was the purpose of this study, to overcome these limitations and to provide a better understanding of how these variables are related to each other. We have studied a sample of 211 firms for a 6-year period between 1995-2000. The results of the analyses have provided some interesting results. First, international diversification has been found to have a positive effect on innovation assets rather than the other way around. Second, the results show innovation assets lead to higher performance with a time lag. Further, there is also support that firms with little or no product diversification are more likely to benefit from international diversification. Finally, product diversification has been found to lead to lower investments in innovation assets.Item Open Access Crowdfunding for financing wearable technologies(IEEE, 2016) Tanrısever, Fehmi; Wismans-Voorbraak, K. -A.We explore electronic crowdfunding platforms as a means of receiving money and other resources by an entrepreneur from many parties for financing wearable technology project. The electronic platform determines the cost of funding for the entrepreneur and the return investors will receive per period. This research aims to develop a framework to understand and evaluate the quantitative and qualitative implications of various crowdfunding platforms for the entrepreneur and his investment decisions in wearable technologies. We consider a debt financing based platform and examine its operational implications on the entrepreneur's decisions. In addition, we identify the incentive problems that occur in these models. © 2016 IEEE.Item Open Access External factors, housing values and rents: evidence from survey data(European Regional Science Association (ERSA), 2000) Dökmeci, Vedia; Yavas, A.This study uses a rich survey data to analyze housing values and rents in Istanbul, Turkey. In addition to variables related to location, household characteristics, and the physical characteristics of the property, the data involves a number of “qualitative” questions related to a set of external factors, such as the satisfaction level of the occupants with green area, parks, recreational facilities, transportation, distance to work, and noise. The paper identifies and compares the set of external factors that have a significant impact on property values and rents.Item Open Access Moderating effects of climate and external support on transformational leadership and technological innovation: An investigation in creative ventures in Turkey(IEEE, 2006) Gümüsluoğlu, Lale T.; Ilsev, A.The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of transformational leadership on technological innovation at the organizational level. Specifically, it was proposed that transformational leadership would have a positive effect on organizational innovation. Furthermore, this effect was proposed to be moderated by an innovation-supporting climate and support received from external organizations. These relationships were tested on 163 R&D personnel and managers of 43 micro- and small-sized Turkish entrepreneurial software development companies. The results confirmed the positive impact of transformational leadership on organizational innovation, which was measured with a market-oriented criterion developed specifically for developing countries and newly developing industries. Furthermore, the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational innovation was stronger when external support was at high levels than when there was no external support. The moderating effect of an innovation-supporting climate was not significant. Managerial implications as well as policy recommendations are provided, for micro and small-sized enterprises in particular.
