dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada Mersin, Adana ve çoğunlukla Hatay bölgesinde yaşayan insanların mensup olduğu Arap Aleviliği kültüründeki Amcalık Kurumu araştırılmıştır. Amcalık Geleneğinin kendine has ritüelleri ve pratiklerine yer verilmiş, diğer geleneklerden farklılıklarına değinilmiştir. Amcalık Kurumunun yakın geçmişte uğradığı değişiklikler ve bu kurumun sosyolojik işlevleri incelenmiştir. Bu geleneğin öznesi olan erkek bireylerin deneyimleri değerlendirilmiştir. Bu pratiğin kadını konumlandırma biçiminin patriyarkal düzende hizmet ettikleri araştırılmıştır. Makale konusunun birinci kaynaklardan ele alınması amacıyla Orhan Özdemir, Işıl Elmas ve Deniz Özal ile röportaj yapılmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this research paper, “Unclehood Institusion” and its sociological and cultural functions in Nusayris are studied specifically in the region of Mersin, Adana and Hatay. It includes Unclehood Institution’s authentic rituals and practices and distinctions from other traditions in Muslim communities. The alterations that this tradition has been through over time and the dynamics that have been adjusted in recent history are researched. The experiences of males who have been positioned as subjects of this practice are analyzed. Discriminative approaches of this tradition towards women and its exclusionary effects are explored. Interview sessions have been held with Orhan Özdemir, Işıl Elmas and Deniz Özal who are familiar with the tradition.en_US
