dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractNesrin Olgun Arslan 1957 yılında Adana'da doğmuş profesyonel bir yüzücüdür. Yüzme hayatına 7 yaşında başlayan Nesrin Olgun Arslan bu alanda çok önemli başarılara imza atmıştır. Aynı zamanda masa tenisi gibi diğer spor dallarında da kendisini geliştirmiştir. Nesrin Olgun Arslan'ı, yüzme alanında ileri bir noktaya taşıyan olay ise; 28 Ağustos 1979 yılında İngiltere ve Fransa arasında bulunan Manş Denizi'ni geçen ilk Türk Kadını olmasıdır. Soğukluğuyla bilinen Manş Denizi'ni toplam 15 saat 47 dakikada geçmiştir. Bu başarı, Nesrin Olgun Arslan'a "İngiltere'den Fransa'ya Manş Denizini Yüzerek Geçen İlk Türk Kadını" unvanını vermiştir. Ayrıca, Nesrin Olgun Arslan kadınlara bu başarısıyla önemli bir örnek olup hâlâ kadınları spor yapmaya teşvik etmektedir.
dc.description.abstractNesrin Olgun Arslan who is a professional swimmer was born in 1957, Adana. She started swimming when she was 7 years old and later had many important successes in this field. She also played in other sport branches like table tennis. By becoming the first Turkish woman to swim across the English Channel (which is located between England and France) on 28 August 1979, she became a well-known athlete in Turkey. She swam the across English Channel that is known for its coldness in 15 hours 47 minutes. This gave Nesrin Olgun Arslan the title of "The First Turkish Woman to Swim Across the English Channel". In addition, Nesrin Olgun Arslan is an important example for women with her success and she still inspires women to do sports in her life.
