In this talk, we will review our recent work on metamaterial based biosensors and photodetectors. We will first explain how SRR structures can be used for bioassay applications that can improve the measurement time and sensitivity. We will also present a label-free, optical nano-biosensor based on the LSPR effect that is observed at the metal-dielectric interface of silver nano-cylinder arrays located periodically on a sapphire substrate by E-Beam Lithography. Finally, we will report on a UV plasmonic antenna integrated metal semiconductor metal (MSM) photodetector based on GaN. Optimized grating structure integrated photodetectors exhibited more than sevenfold photo-current enhancement.
