      Abstract

Zeynel Abidin Cümbüş who was born in 1881 in Skopje as a son of gun producer has become famous when he set up a private concert for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in which the inventor’s son Cemal played the ‘cumbus’. Cumbus is a stringed instrument which was named by Atatürk by saying “It would bring cheer where it goes”. With its being sonorous and having a unique structure it differs from other instruments and finds a place for itself. Not only, is this instrument invented by Zeynel Abidin Cümbüş mostly used in the wive ceremonies and mournings nowadays but also played by foreign performers in all over the world.
